Verdi's Ladies - in German

The wealth of sopranos in Germanic countries between 1936 and 1952, the period covered on "Opera auf Deutsch", was truly remarkable. By restricting this page to Verdi's works - of which eight are on the disc - you're deprived of examples of Schech, Jurinac, Cebotari, Grümmer and others who are heard in works of other composers, but the line must be drawn somewhere. So here are a few examples to illustrate the wealth of choices available in this period.

Aida "Ritorna vincitor" - Margarete Teschemacher
Otello "Ave Maria" - Hilde Konetzni
Trovatore "Taca la notte placida" - Maria Reining
