From Mike Richter:
The Bayerische Operhaus is intimately associated with the operas of Richard Strauss, yet there is little documentation of that heritage. With this addition to the Audio Encyclopedia, we are proud to provide a complete collection - with one notable exception. The performance here of Capriccio from Salzburg is indispensable; no Munich performance of comparable quality could be found.
All of the following, twenty essentially complete operas and three partial recordings, are contained on a single CD-ROM. See below for audio clip descriptions.

Lucia Poppsings Richard Strauss
The seventh volume of the Audio Encyclopedia surveys the operas of Richard Strauss in live performances from Munich and Salzburg. Among the artists noted for their performances of Strauss and heard largely in those venues was the remarkable Lucia Popp. As early as 1964 and continuing until her final performances, she was noted for her portrayal of such roles as Sophie, the Marschallin and Arabella. The disc includes all of those and her Gräfin in Capriccio. Of those, only her Sophie (as seen in the photo here) is available on commercial recording.

These files are necessarily large and the sound quality is not as high as one would like. But they are unique and they are honest representations of what is on the CD-ROM.

Here is a bit of that Sophie in performance in 1973 under Carlos Kleiber with Claire Watson and Brigitte Fassbaender.

Her Arabella stands with any I know; see if you concur in this portion of the end of Act I.
